Housing Action Plan

Housing is a pressing issue in Ellensburg. Since 2012 the average home value increased by 47%, and the average rent increased by 24%. During this same time, median family incomes in the region only increased by 15%. While increases in the cost of housing may be the most visible challenge to our residents, it is not the only one. Access to housing, and affordability of housing, is influenced by many factors and participants.

The City is working to do its part to develop strategies and policies that support the development of housing for everyone in Ellensburg. To do this the City of Ellensburg is creating a Housing Action Plan (HAP) for the community, funded by a grant from the Washington State Department of Commerce.

This HAP will evaluate the current housing needs in Ellensburg, and also plan ahead for future housing needs. When the HAP is adopted in October 2021, it will help the City to create housing policies and strategies that will achieve Ellensburg’s goal of ensuring a variety of housing is available - and affordable - to people of all incomes in Ellensburg.
