Historic Preservation Month 2024

Each May, the City of Ellensburg joins State and Local historical societies and civic organizations across the country in celebration of National Historic Preservation month. It is important to celebrate local Ellensburg history, and to recognize the people who work hard to preserve historic buildings and spaces throughout the community.

Did you Know?

The City of Ellensburg is home to many historic buildings and neighborhoods, including two official historic districts that are listed on the National Register of Historic Places and the Local Ellensburg Historic Landmarks Register. These two districts are - The Downtown Historic District - and - The First Railroad Addition Historic District - which are highlighted in tan on the memories map below. There are several additional houses and structures throughout the city also listed on the National and Local historic registers, including City Hall (located in what used to be Washington High School), the historic Shoudy Mansion, Morgan Middle School, and Barge Hall on the CWU campus, just to name a few.


2024 Historic Preservation Month Celebration and Awards

The Ellensburg Landmarks and Design Commission and Kittitas County Historical Museum are excited to announce the voting period for the 2024 community selected Historic Preservation Award is now open! We would like to hear from YOU, as to which building should take home the award. Vote below! Cast your votes by 5 p.m. March 31, 2024.
